Job summary

Kirschner Contractors in Hawaii seeks a Project Engineer to manage RFIs, submittals, schedules, and cost tracking across office and project sites on Oahu and other islands. You will coordinate document control, QA, field observations, and closeout documentation while mentoring field staff.

The role requires a civil/structural/mechanical/electrical engineering degree, 3–7 years in construction, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field; or equivalent education/experience.
• 3–7 years of construction experience with CM firm, GC, or design firm.
• Solid understanding of construction docs, means and methods, and contract administration.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management platforms.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contracts.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to work on active construction sites.

Responsibilities

• Manage and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and other project correspondence.
• Assist with schedule updates, progress tracking, and coordination with the project controls team.
• Support cost tracking, pay application review, and change order documentation.
• Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and action item logs.
• Coordinate document control processes and maintain organized project files (electronic and hard copy).
• Support quality assurance efforts and track deficiencies/punch list items.
• Assist with field observations and documentation as needed.
• Facilitate communication between the contractor, design team, owner, and internal staff.
• Help prepare closeout documentation and as-built records.
• Contribute to risk identification and mitigation efforts.
• Provide support on claims documentation and potential dispute matters when required.
• Mentor field staff and assist junior team members as assigned.
