Job summary

Cloudflare, Inc. is seeking a Hardware Systems Engineer in Austin to help design, qualify, and maintain the company’s fleet of servers. You will work with Engineering, Sourcing, and Performance teams to ensure scalable, reliable hardware for Cloudflare’s global network.

You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize electrical, thermal, and mechanical aspects and drive initiatives that improve efficiency and deployment speed across our data-center hardware ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
• Foundational knowledge or internship/academic experience with compute design engineering, validation, performance benchmarking, debugging, and deployment used in the data center
• Curiosity to learn Cloudflare hardware and products used by 20% of websites
• Desire to learn server fleet management at scale with tools for traffic management and capacity planning
• Desire to learn the tools Cloudflare uses to maintain and monitor our hardware
• Harness AI tools and automation to accelerate the qualification lifecycle
• Organizational skills to manage cross-functional technical projects
• Self-motivated engineer in ambiguous environments with bias for action

Responsibilities

• Support and assist in end-to-end server product qualification from concept to deployment
• Assist gathering product requirements for next generation servers and evaluate components
• Collaborate with strategy, sourcing, and capacity planning to steer server initiatives
• Onboard and integrate new servers into provisioning and fleet management tools
• Collaborate with performance and software teams to optimize software on hardware
• Deploy firmware updates and triage hardware issues; maintain automation tools
• Communicate results through blog posts and internal talks
