Job summary

Cloudflare is seeking a Hardware Systems Engineer to help shape the global server fleet and infrastructure. You will design, qualify, and maintain servers used across its world‑wide network, collaborating with Engineering, Performance, and Sourcing teams to ensure scalable, reliable hardware deployments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science is required.
• Foundational knowledge or internship/academic experience with compute design engineering, validation, performance benchmarking, debugging, and deployment used in data centers.
• Curiosity and desire to learn about Cloudflare hardware and products.
• Desire to learn how a diverse server fleet is managed at scale with tools such as traffic management, capacity planning and failover mechanisms.
• Desire to learn the tools Cloudflare uses to maintain and monitor our hardware.
• Harness AI tools and automation to accelerate qualification lifecycle while improving efficiency and quality.
• Organizational skills to manage cross‑functional technical projects aligning with delivery schedules.
• Self‑motivated engineer with bias for action and ability to drive initiatives independently.

Responsibilities

• Provide end-to-end support in server product qualification from concept to deployment, ensuring hardware designs are optimized for large-scale rollout by Infrastructure Operations.
• Gather product requirements for next-gen servers and work with silicon vendors to assess performance and select components (CPU, memory, disk, NIC, GPUs).
• Collaborate with strategy, sourcing, and capacity planning to steer server infrastructure initiatives.
• Work with Site Reliability Engineering to onboard and integrate new servers into provisioning and fleet management tools.
• Collaborate with performance and software teams to optimize software performance on hardware.
• Coordinate firmware updates, triage hardware issues, and maintain automation tools.
• Communicate results and updates through blog posts and internal talks.
