Job summary

Chillicothe Hardware is seeking an Assistant Manager to support the Store Manager and lead a motivated sales team in Chillicothe, Ohio. The role focuses on delivering outstanding customer service, maintaining store standards, and coaching staff to meet sales goals.

You will oversee daily operations, participate in merchandising, handle inventory, and ensure safety compliance while fostering teamwork in a community-focused hardware store.

Qualifications

• Experience in hardware and/or retail industry.
• Experience in management and overseeing a team.
• Outstanding customer service skills and a professional attitude.
• Ability to supervise other employees and understand the fundamentals of leadership.
• A working knowledge of the products contained in the store with a willingness to continue to learn.
• Organized, self-starter who is able to think independently and solve problems.
• Strong math, reading, writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to follow through on assignments and self-motivation to stay busy throughout the day.
• Understand how to efficiently operate the store’s point-of-sale system. Other computer skills include knowledge of MS Word and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of effective sales methods and techniques.
• Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.
• Able to work a 45-50 hours/week, including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent customer service by assisting customers in person and on the phone.
• Assist the store manager in opening and closing the store.
• Foster teamwork among the staff and maintain high customer service standards.
• Assist in taking regular inventory of stock.
• Respond to customer complaints promptly and resolve if possible.
• Manage store operations and staff in the store manager’s absence.
• Ensure compliance with store policies and safety standards.
• Assist in merchandising, including planograms and displays.
• Help maintain signage and promotional signage.
• Participate in ordering inventory and pricing.
• Train and monitor training of sales associates and cashiers.
• Support store staff with daily tasks.
• Identify shoplifters and respond per policy.
• Attend and occasionally lead staff meetings.
• Suggest and initiate changes to improve business processes.
