Job summary

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP is offering an internship in Raleigh, NC to support the Transportation Water Resources team. You will gain hands-on experience in hydrologic and hydraulic design, stormwater management, and environmental compliance for transportation infrastructure projects.

The role emphasizes collaboration with engineers and scientists, exposure to regulatory requirements, and development of construction documents and reports.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Strong interest in water resources, hydraulics, and transportation infrastructure.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Exposure to engineering software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, or GIS is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and analysis of stormwater management systems, drainage structures, and erosion and sediment control plans.
• Support hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using software such as HEC-RAS, HY-8, and TR-55.
• Help prepare construction documents, technical reports, and permit applications.
• Conduct field investigations and assist with data collection and site assessments.
• Collaborate with engineers and environmental scientists on multidisciplinary transportation projects.
• Learn and apply local, state, and federal water resources regulations.
