Job summary

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP is seeking a motivated intern to join our Transportation Water Resources team. The internship offers hands-on experience in hydrologic and hydraulic design, stormwater management, and environmental compliance for transportation infrastructure projects.

You will assist with design analyses, modeling, and permitting, while gaining exposure to local, state, and federal water resources regulations and collaborating with engineers and environmental scientists.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• Strong interest in water resources and transportation infrastructure.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Exposure to engineering software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, or GIS is a plus).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design and analysis of stormwater management systems and drainage structures.
• Support hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using HEC-RAS, HY-8, and TR-55.
• Help prepare construction documents, technical reports, and permit applications.
• Conduct field investigations and data collection/site assessments.
• Collaborate with engineers and environmental scientists on multidisciplinary projects.
• Learn and apply water resources regulations (VDOT, MDOT, PennDOT, NCDOT).
