Job summary

Micron Solutions is seeking a hands-on Tooling Engineering Manager to lead the Tool Room and Mold Making operations in Fitchburg, MA. You will mentor mold makers, oversee construction, repairs, and maintenance, and drive tooling reliability while staying engaged with the craft.

You will partner with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing to reduce downtime, improve OEE, and advance new product introductions. A strong background in injection molds, GD&T, and CAD is essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years hands-on mold making, tooling, or injection-molding tooling experience.
• Extensive experience building, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining injection molds.
• Leadership, supervisory, or mentoring experience in tool room/manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of mold construction, maintenance, and tooling systems.
• Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge.
• Experience with CNC machining, EDM, milling, grinding, turning, and precision machining.
• Willingness to stay hands-on and involved in daily tool room ops.
• Certification: Tool & Die, Mold Making, Journeyman, or Apprenticeship.
• Education: Associate's or Bachelor's in Engineering/Manufacturing/Plastics, or related field.
• Experience in medical devices or regulated environments.
• Familiarity with SolidWorks or CAD software; ERP/MRP/CMMS experience.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside Mold Makers and Tool Room personnel on mold construction, repair, modification, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Mentor, coach, and train mold makers, apprentices, and technical personnel.
• Develop technical talent and help grow skilled mold makers.
• Lead tooling strategy and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Oversee tool room operations to support production and new product development.
• Manage mold supplier relationships and external tooling projects.
• Support injection molding operations with technical troubleshooting.
• Drive tooling reliability and part quality through PM programs.
