Job summary

Micron Solutions in Fitchburg, MA, is seeking a hands-on Tooling Engineering Manager to lead our Tool Room and Mold Making operations. This role blends technical leadership with practical mold building, repair, and development of the next generation of skilled mold makers.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years in injection molding tooling, strong GD&T and blueprint skills, and a track record of mentoring teams in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on mold making, tool and die, or injection molding tooling experience.
• Extensive experience building, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining injection molds.
• Prior leadership or mentoring experience within a tool room or manufacturing environment.
• Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge.
• Experience with CNC machining, EDM, milling, grinding, turning, and precision machining processes.
• Ability and willingness to remain hands-on and actively involved in daily tool room operations.

Responsibilities

• Lead mold construction, repair, modification, maintenance, and troubleshooting alongside Mold Makers.
• Mentor, coach, and train mold makers, apprentices, and technical personnel.
• Develop technical talent and help build the next generation of skilled mold makers.
• Direct daily tool room operations to support production and new product development.
• Oversee tooling documentation, maintenance records, and work orders.
• Drive tooling excellence with lifecycle management and preventive maintenance.
• Lead root cause investigations related to tooling and manufacturing issues.
• Support new tooling development and supplier qualification.
• Promote Lean Manufacturing principles across the department.
