Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Feed Mill Maintenance Tech to oversee maintenance and repairs of feed mill equipment, including conveyors, boilers, pellet mills, and VFD drives. The role focuses on evaluating, repairing, and maintaining precise maintenance records while upholding safety and environmental compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and 1 year of successful industrial maintenance experience required.
• Ability to perform troubleshooting, repair and assembly of any feed mill equipment.
• Electrician license not required but helpful.
• Experience troubleshooting electrical issues including solid-state circuitry, 110 V control circuits, lighting circuits, VFD and soft-start drives and 3 phase circuitry.
• Ability to read and speak English.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
• Experience in pneumatic systems including compressors, cylinders and solenoid valve troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Experience in liquid systems including positive displacement pumps, metering system calibration, automatic valves and plumbing.

Responsibilities

• Conducts daily maintenance work activities in assigned equipment areas and sets up maintenance schedules.
• Follows standard operating maintenance instructions/procedures in maintenance tasks including replacement, adjustment, or installation of feed mill equipment.
• Maintains awareness of maintenance problems and develops strategies to prevent downtime.
• Develops and improves a Preventative Maintenance Program to meet goals.
• Develops and communicates parts replacement or repair guidelines.
• Promotes a Safety Awareness Program and housekeeping practices.
• Monitors and maintains all feed mill equipment and ensures safe repairs.
• Complies with environmental laws and EMS policies.
• Maintains maintenance records and reports.
