Job summary

Viant Technology is seeking a Hands-On Engineering Manager to lead a backend engineering team responsible for low-latency, high-throughput ad tech systems. You will guide architecture and collaborate with product management, focusing on performance and scalability.

The role requires strong Go/Java backend expertise, cloud familiarity (AWS/GCP), and a track record in building scalable distributed systems. You will mentor engineers and drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience, including 1-3+ years managing low latency, high throughput backend teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering; Masters preferred.
• 6+ years hands-on programming in Java and/or Go.
• Track record in building large, horizontally scalable distributed systems.
• Intimate knowledge of cloud providers and services, especially AWS and GCP.
• Experience building large-scale, customer-facing applications with realtime performance, scalability and reliability.
• Strong understanding of latency, throughput, and performance bottlenecks in real-time systems.
• Experience with agile development and CI/CD processes.

• Drive performance, reliability, and scalability improvements.
• Contribute to critical projects via code/design reviews and technical guidance.
• Maintain high code quality and oversee architecture and design.
