Job summary

Viant is seeking a Hands-On Engineering Manager to lead a backend team building low-latency ad tech systems. Strong foundation in Go/Java, microservices and serverless architecture is required, with mentoring responsibilities and focus on performance.

The role emphasizes architecture oversight, collaboration with product teams, and delivering scalable, real-time services in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in backend engineering or architecture.
• 1–3+ years in engineering management of low-latency, high-throughput teams.
• 6+ years hands-on programming in Java and/or Go.
• Experience with cloud providers (AWS and/or GCP).

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of high-quality features based on product requirements.
• Drive performance, reliability, and scalability improvements.
• Occasionally contribute to code/design, perform reviews, and provide technical guidance.
• Maintain high code quality and oversee architecture and design.
• Coach and mentor engineers for growth and measurable outcomes.
