Job summary

Viant seeks a Hands-On Engineering Manager to lead a backend team building low‑latency ad tech systems using Go/Java, microservices, and serverless architectures. You will guide design and implementation of bidding server features in collaboration with partner teams and product managers.

You will mentor engineers, drive performance, scalability, and reliability, and participate in code/design when needed, balancing leadership responsibilities. Base compensation range shown.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with 1-3+ years managing backend teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering; Master's preferred.
• 6+ years programming in Java and/or Go and building scalable distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud providers (AWS/GCP) and CI/CD processes.
• Ad tech background and focus on latency, performance, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of high‑quality features based on product requirements.
• Drive performance, reliability, and scalability improvements.
• Occasionally contribute to code/design and mentor engineers.
• Maintain high code quality while balancing leadership duties.
• Coach and grow the team with measurable outcomes.
