Job summary

MDS Staffing in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a hands-on Tax Manager to own the income tax function. You will lead the tax provision process, oversee return preparation with external preparers and internal staff, and coach a team of tax accountants.

You will design processes, improve controls, and collaborate with auditors and management, while staying current on federal, state, and local tax rules. A CPA or Master’s in Taxation is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting
• 6+ years of tax experience in public accounting or a corporate environment
• Strong federal, state, and local tax knowledge
• Advanced Excel skills
• Sharp organizational and analytical skills, with strong interpersonal and communication abilities
• A motivated, take-charge attitude
• CPA, Master's in Taxation, or experience in manufacturing, retail, insurance, or mortgage (plus)

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop tax accountants through coaching, supervision, and feedback
• Own the quarterly and annual ASC 740 tax provision
• Oversee federal and state income tax return calculations and filings
• Review FIN 48 and UNICAP positions
• Respond to notices and inquiries from taxing authorities
• Work directly with internal and external auditors
• Research and deliver tax information requested by management and outside parties
• Support related areas as needed, including sales tax, property tax, payroll tax, and incentives
• Map, document, and re-engineer tax processes to improve efficiency, controls, and metrics
