Job summary

UAB Facilities is seeking a General Mechanic to join the Campus Maintenance team in Birmingham, AL. The role focuses on interpreting blueprints, performing routine maintenance, and supporting a range of trades across campus facilities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and two years of related maintenance experience.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and at least 21 years old; clean MVR.
  • Ability to read blueprints, floor plans, and equipment specifications.
  • Experience with electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and built structures is favorable.

Responsibilities

  • Read, understands, and interprets blueprints, floor plans, schedules and specs for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and related equipment.
  • Perform minor, routine, and preventive maintenance on electrical, mechanical equipment, plumbing systems and fixtures, and building structures.
  • Assist other maintenance personnel (electricians, HVAC, plumbers, carpenters, masons, painters, sheet metal workers) as needed.
  • Respond to service requests and emergencies from building occupants and ensure timely completion of tasks.
