Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a Nights and Weekends General Mechanic to join Campus Maintenance. This role performs hands-on electrical, plumbing and HVAC tasks and reads blueprints, schedules and specifications related to building systems.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, repairing electrical systems, and assisting other trades. A High School Diploma or GED with two years of related experience is required; basic knowledge of fire alarms and generators

Responsibilities

Reads and interprets blueprints, floor plans, schedules and manufacturers’ specifications for electrical, mechanical, plumbing and HVAC systems.
Performs minor, routine and preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical equipment, plumbing systems and fixtures, and building structures.
Assists other maintenance personnel including Electricians, HVAC mechanics, Plumbers, Carpenters, Masons, Painters and Sheet Metal Workers.
Responds to service requests from building occupants, including emergencies and routine issues.
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical systems: lighting, outlets, switches, motors and basic controls.
Performs other duties as assigned.
