UAB Facilities is seeking a General Mechanic to join the Campus Maintenance team in Birmingham, AL. The role focuses on interpreting blueprints, performing routine maintenance, and supporting a range of trades across campus facilities.
The position requires a High School Diploma or GED with related experience, a valid US driver’s license, and a strong ability to read mechanical drawings while working with hand and power tools. It offers steady hours and on-site work.

Reads, understands, and interprets blueprints drawings, floor plans, schedules and manufacturers' operating and/or maintenance specifications as related to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC and special equipment, building structures and finishes. Performs minor, routine, and preventive maintenance including operating, cleaning, inspecting, adjusting, tightening, replacing, lubricating, reporting problems, etc., on electrical and mechanical equipment, plumbing systems and fixtures, and building structures and furnishings. May be called upon to assist other maintenance personnel in completion of work tasks including but not limited to electricians, HVAC mechanics, plumbers, carpenters, masons, painters, sheet metal workers, etc. Responds to emergency as well as routine requests for service from building occupants.
Pay Range: $17.00 - $24.00 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications).
Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 4:00pm (Must be able to work a flexible work schedule) (Subject to change to meet the needs of the University and department).
