Job summary

Hotel Californian in Santa Barbara is seeking a friendly and professional Host/Hostess to greet guests, manage reservations, and guide them to recommended dining and activities in the area.

You will perform host duties, take orders at the counter, handle payments, and help maintain a welcoming cafe environment while ensuring guest satisfaction and smooth service flow. This position supports the team to deliver an exceptional guest experience.

Qualifications

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Prior host/barista experience preferred.
• Must be able to multitask.
• Stand and walk for an extended period.
• Must be able to move, lift up to 10 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests entering the restaurant with superior service.
• Answer phones and record reservations for large parties.
• Make recommendations for guests about local restaurants and activities.
• Thank guests at departure and invite them to return.
• Ensure food and beverage operations run smoothly and the area stays clean.
• Oversee restaurant operations in the absence of a manager/supervisor.
• Manage the register and POS operations; balance at shift end.
