A global law firm is seeking a Risk and Compliance Counsel based in California or remotely. This role involves managing potential risks associated with new clients and personnel, ensuring compliance with ethical standards. Applicants should hold a Juris Doctorate with 3+ years of relevant experience and possess strong analytical and communication skills. Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Risk and Compliance Counsel, based in any of our West Coast offices (Los Angeles; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle) and consideration given for 100% remote US locations.
The Risk & Compliance Counsel ("RCC") will join a team of staff attorneys for the firm and be responsible for managing potential risks to the firm posed by the onboarding of new clients, new matters for existing clients, and new personnel. The RCC's role will include effectively and efficiently analyzing and resolving potential ethical, contractual, and potential major business conflicts of interest posed by new business intake and lateral hiring. The RCC also will be responsible for researching and analyzing issues under applicable laws relating to the firm's ethical duties and advising on other compliance and risk management issues associated with firm operations, as needed. The RCC will be expected to have excellent analytical and communication skills as they manage a dynamic and often fast paced set of matters and issues.
The RCC will report directly to the firm's Director of New Business & Conflicts and coordinate on a regular basis with the firm's Deputy General Counsel and Risk Management Deputy General Counsel, as well as other members of the firm's Office of General Counsel ("OGC"). The RCC will collaborate with other RCCs and work closely with other members of the New Business & Conflicts Department ("NB&C"), including intake and lateral conflicts analysts.

The expected salary range for this position is:
Orrick is committed to providing a comprehensive, competitive, and thoughtful total compensation package to our attorneys and staff, wherever they work. This compensation and benefits information is based on the Orrick's estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future. The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary merit bonus, which would be determined by Firm and individual performance.
