Iron Cactus in San Antonio is seeking a courteous Host to greet guests, seat them promptly, and help create an inviting dining atmosphere. You will tailor pace and energy to each guest while maintaining a neat appearance and professional demeanor.

The role requires 16+ years old, the ability to stand 6-8 hours, and strong communication to relay guests’ needs to the team and managers. You’ll support back-up duties, shifts, and maintaining safety and cleanliness.

Qualifications

• 16 years of age or older.
• Courteous, friendly, and professional demeanor.
• Pass quizzes and tests, and complete all workbook assignments.
• Neatly dressed, well-groomed in company approved attire.
• Stands and walks during 6-8 hour shift; Reaches, bends, stoops and wipes.
• Must be able to articulate clear greetings and farewells to guests, as well as being able to understand requests for assistance.
• Must be able to clearly communicate guests’ needs to team members and managers.
• Must be able to hear well in a loud environment in order to answer telephone and respond to guest requests.
• May be required to carry trays or supplies (10-30 lbs).
• Must be able to calmly respond to angry guests and notify manager of situation.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests with a variety of greetings.
• Create a fast-paced but unobtrusive atmosphere by adjusting pace and energy for each guest.
• Maintain a friendly, professional temperament and a neat image.
• Maintain eye contact with guests.
• Anticipate and inquire about guests’ needs.
• Ensure guests never leave unhappy or dissatisfied.
• Never allow a mediocre guest experience.
• Be alert to lighting, music levels, and overall ambiance.
• Explain and discuss menu items with guests as needed.
• Assist with seating and managing the guest list as required.
• Rotate seating efficiently and communicate with the team.
• Stay organized and professional; welcome new hires.
• Walk with purpose and show urgency when needed.
• Perform restroom checks and follow safety/sanitation procedures.
• Complete assigned back-up duties and shift changes.
• Restock supplies and inform supervisor of issues.
• Maintain good relationships with staff and purveyors.
