Job summary

The Possible Zone in Boston seeks a permanent Chief Financial Officer to lead the financial strategy and operations as the organization scales its multi-site, multi-revenue model.

The CFO will oversee budgeting, forecasting, and compliance under US GAAP, drive the Sage Intacct implementation, partner with Ventures leadership, and build a high-performing finance team to support growth and sustainability. Compensation $210,000-$260,000 plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting required; MBA preferred; CPA credentials are a strong plus.
• 15+ years of related experience, ideally nonprofit and corporate backgrounds.
• Strong ability to connect finance and strategy and present financial information clearly to diverse audiences.
• Previous nonprofit accounting and financial leadership experience with thorough knowledge of GAAP.
• Experience building multi-site or multi-entity financial models is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience configuring financial systems (QuickBooks Online and Sage Intacct) to support department-level budget tracking, multi-site reporting, multi-entity consolidation, and reliable monthly close.
• Experience with third-party software tools such as Coupa and their integration with QuickBooks or Sage Intacct.
• Experience with earned revenue models, consumer product businesses, or multi-entity subsidiaries within a nonprofit structure (UBIT implications).</health>

Responsibilities

• Lead and scale the finance function, including oversight of Controller and staff accountants.
• Oversee external auditors and manage annual audit cycles.
• Develop and enforce technical accounting policies and internal controls per US GAAP.
• Manage accounts payable, cash management, and grant management, partnering with other teams.
• Lead budgeting and forecasting processes and redesign the budgeting model for multi-site operations.
• Shape strategy on revenue growth and diversification in partnership with Ventures.
• Oversee TPZ Ventures’ financial operations, including multi-entity consolidation and intercompany reconciliations.
• Coordinate with third-party accounting firm and specialized finance support.
• Ensure compliance and timely external financial reporting at local, state, and federal levels.
• Foster financial discipline and scalable systems across sites.
