You will demonstrate exercises, provide modifications, keep attendance, and ensure equipment is properly stored.

Qualifications

• CPR/AED/First Aid certification is required within one month of employment.
• Must hold Silver Sneakers certification or obtain on hire.
• Proven experience leading group fitness classes across disciplines.
• Knowledge of basic nutrition and wellbeing of mind/body.
• Experience teaching exercise equipment usage.
• Excellent teaching skills and engaging communication.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with participants.

Responsibilities

• Lead Silver Sneakers classes focused on aerobic activity and strength.
• Demonstrate exercises clearly and offer safe modifications.
• Create an inclusive, welcoming class environment.
• Maintain accurate class attendance records.
• Ensure equipment is returned and studio is prepared for next class.
• Arrange substitutes when unable to teach scheduled classes.
• Be punctual and flexible to cover additional classes as needed.
• Answer participant questions to support fitness goals.
• Stay current with fitness certifications and trends.
• Participate in required department meetings and trainings.

The Opportunity:As a Group Fitness Instructor, you will lead Silver Sneakers classes designed to enhance participants’ overall fitness and well-being. Classes may focus on aerobic activity, muscular strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, stretching, dance, yoga, or mind-body exercises. Instructors should be able to provide safe, engaging, and inclusive instruction for older adults with a variety of fitness levels and abilities.
What you get: In exchange for your time and talent, this Part‑time Class II position pays $30 - $33 per hour
When you’ll work: Availability on weekday mornings, and weekends is required to accommodate our members’ needs, and ensure that we can cater to a diverse range of schedules. Flexibility Available.

A Day in the Life:

• Motivate and inspire participants to have a safe, fun, and effective fitness class experience.
• Demonstrate exercises clearly and monitors participants to offer modifications as needed.
• Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where participants feel connected and comfortable.
• Keep accurate class attendance records.
• Ensure that all fitness equipment is returned to its proper place at the end of each class. This includes shutting down all audio equipment and fans, and preparing the studio for the next class.
• Responsible for finding a substitute instructor when unable to teach scheduled class.
• Punctual and reliable to teach regularly scheduled classes while flexible to cover additional classed as needed.
• Answer participants’ questions to support them in achieving their fitness journey.
• Maintain up-to-date fitness certifications and stay informed about the latest fitness trends.
• Attend all required department meetings and trainings.
• Ensure all Park District’s safety policies are being followed and implemented

About you:

• 21 years of age or older
• Must have or willing to obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification within one month of employment.
• Must have Silver Sneakers certification, or willing to obtain upon hire. Formats include, but not limited to, Silver Sneakers Classic,Silver Sneakers Circuit, Silver Sneakers Yoga,Silver Sneakers Stability, Silver Sneakers Boom Muscle; must maintain certification remain as active staff.
• Proven experience in leading group fitness classes in various fitness disciplines
• Knowledge of basic nutrition and the well-being of health/mind/body.
• Experience in teaching the use of exercise equipment required.
• Possess excellent teaching skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with participants and creative a positive, inclusive environment
• High level of physical fitness and stamina to effectively demonstrate and lead classes
