Job summary

Lone Star College-CyFair is seeking a Grounds Technician II to manage and maintain the campus exterior, parking areas, and grounds. The role includes advising groundscrew, scheduling work, and performing maintenance with equipment such as mowers and trimmers.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive and corrective maintenance and installation of irrigation systems, as well as repairs to equipment.
  • Maintains campus grounds using riding mower; trims shrubs and edges; blows sidewalks and parking areas.
  • Performs landscape general labor for planting.
  • Routinely sprays insecticides and treats plants/trees for disease or infestation.
  • Assists in scheduling and assigning work of grounds crew; may supervise in absence of manager.
  • Provides directions to outside contractors performing ground services.

Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The Grounds Technician II provides advice and council to groundscrew employees on a day-to-day basis. Assists Leadership withscheduling and assigning employees. Performs basic grounds andlandscaping maintenance using power driven tools and equipment,such as: mower, edger, power clippers, and vacuum/blower devices.Conducts general preventive/periodic maintenance of power equipmentand tools. Performs external pest control of property. Work isperformed with little supervision. Assist with schedules andassigns grounds maintenance activities related to the collegecampus exterior, parking lots and grounds.

This role works collaboratively across LSC campuses on specialprojects, recommend process improvement, and implement bestpractices in standard operating procedures (SOPs) across functionalunits.

  1. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance and installationof irrigation systems, as well as miscellaneous repairs toequipment and devices
  2. Maintains landscaping and grounds of one or multiple Lone StarCollege campus(s). Using a riding power mower, mows, fertilizeshrubs, trees and edges the lawn; Blows all sidewalks and parkingareas to clear leaves, grass, etc.
  3. Performs landscape general labor for planting
  4. Routinely sprays insecticides, treats plants and trees fordisease or insect infestation
  5. Assists in scheduling and assigning work of grounds crew. Mayassume supervisory duties in absence of manager
  6. Works collaboratively across LSC campuses on special projects,evaluate business strategies, recommend process improvement, andimplement best practices in standard operating procedures (SOPs)across functional units
  7. Provide directions to outside contractors performing groundservices
  8. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties asassigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Must be able to understand and follow directions givenorally
  • Physically capable of performing heavy lifting (50 pounds) andlabor intensive work associated with grounds maintenance
  • Capable of safely operating powered equipment, such as: ridingmower, brush hog, tractor; and be able to determine which equipmentto use for a particular purpose
  • Knowledge of grounds keeping equipment experience
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
  • Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with thewhole hand
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/ornegligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry,push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the humanbody.
  • Ability to perform labor intensive work associated with groundsmaintenance
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS
  • Equipment used includes general grounds maintenance equipmentsuch as mowers, blowers, etc.
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed primarily outdoors. Exposure to normalatmospheric conditions, dirt, dust, weather variables, etc.Lifting, trip hazard, and power tools/equipment safety precautionsmust be observed as necessary to carry out the duties of thisposition
  • May regularly travel to different LSC locations
  • May be fully reassigned to other LSC locations ifnecessary
  • May need to work weekends and untraditional hours ifnecessary
  • This position is classified as an essential employee, whichmeans the individual may be required to report to work duringcollege closures or emergencies to support recovery and reopeningefforts.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of experience,or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have valid Texas driver's license and be eligible forinsurance coverage
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate degree or higher
  • Experience in local terrain and climate horticulture
  • TCEQ Irrigation Technician Certification, Landscape irrigatorLicense, or equivalent certification
  • Current Certified Applicator License from the Texas Departmentof Agriculture
Salary

Hiring salary range is: $38,761 - $44,575

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all postedfull-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fallin that range is determined by your related experience andeducation.
