Job summary

Lone Star College is seeking an Electrician Technician III at the Cypress Center to maintain electrical, lighting and HVAC systems across campus facilities. You will troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance, following safety guidelines and SOPs.

Responsibilities include coordinating with maintenance teams, keeping accurate records, and supporting campus projects. A Journeyman Electrician license and a minimum of seven years' experience are required, with a Texas driver’s license.

Job Description
Purpose and Scope

The Electrician Technician III position utilizes a specialized skill set in performing assigned duties and tasks. Responsible for campus-wide maintenance, service and repairs on electrical, lighting, HVAC on multiple buildings. Rely on experience, training and independent judgment to plan and carry out goals, missions and objectives. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May lead and coordinate the work of others. Responsible for maintaining all college, state and federal safety guidelines and standards.

This role works collaboratively across LSC campuses on special projects, recommend process improvement, and implement best practices in standard operating procedures (SOPs) across functional units.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Directs and participates in preventive and corrective maintenance as well as general maintenance of electrical, lighting, and HVAC systems
  2. Maintains daily works orders/records of equipment, inspections, and preventative maintenance activities and produces periodic reports
  3. Conducts weekly, monthly and annual inspection of facilities/equipment
  4. Repairs and/or replaces electrical components in campus buildings
  5. Maintains and repairs bus ducts and load distribution centers
  6. Troubleshoots and services multiple voltages up to and including 480 volts
  7. Troubleshoot repairs, replacements and programs VFDs, MCC components, and lighting control systems
  8. Maintains continuous inventory of electrical equipment and supplies
  9. Assists management with recommendations for selection of vendors and purchase of equipment and services
  10. Follows college, state, and federal guidelines and standards regarding safety
  11. Assist with general maintenance duties such as plumbing, carpentry, HVAC as needed
  12. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be capable of performing labor-intensive work associated with facilities maintenance
  • Must be capable of safely operating powered equipment such as: Electrical tools and equipment, voltage meters, testing equipment, saws drills, and be able to determine which equipment to use for a particular purpose
  • Must have knowledge of and ability to follow building codes
  • Knowledge of Windows, Word, Excel and Outlook
Physical Abilities
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 50 feet
  • Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling
  • Holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
  • Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word including those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Close visual acuity to perform principal duties and responsibilities
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another
Work Schedule and Conditions
  • Lifting, trip hazard, and power tools/equipment safety and chemical precautions must be observed
  • Work may be performed inside and outdoors and exposure to normal atmospheric conditions may exist
  • Interface with internal and external contacts, as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • May regularly travel to different LSC locations
  • May be fully reassigned to other LSC locations if necessary
  • May need to work weekends and untraditional hours if necessary
  • This position is classified as an essential employee, which means the individual may be required to report to work during college closures or emergencies to support recovery and reopening efforts
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED and at least 7 years of experience

  • Journeyman Electrician license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and General Maintenance systems
  • Master Electrician's license
Salary

Hiring salary range is: $54,528 - $62,707

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
