Job summary

Lone Star College-CyFair in Cypress, TX seeks a PT Grounds Worker to maintain campus exteriors, gardens, irrigation, and outdoor facilities, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

You will perform lawn care, operate equipment, oversee minor repairs, coordinate with contractors, and support furniture moves while upholding campus standards and safety practices.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; an Associate degree may be considered in lieu of experience.
• Ability to understand and follow directions orally.
• Physically able to perform heavy lifting and labor-intensive grounds work.

Responsibilities

• Maintain landscaping and grounds of one or multiple Lone Star College campus(s).
• Remove trash container bags inside courtyards and throughout campus grounds daily.
• Maintain irrigation, ponds and water fountains; diagnose and inspect sprinkler system timers, valves, wiring, piping and heads.
• Provide direction to outside contractors performing ground services.
• Assist with setup of furniture moves or office/classroom relocation; assist electricians repairing outside elevated lights.
• Repair minor ground equipment and schedule major equipment repairs with vendors.
• Maintain or repair structures (i.e. greenhouses, fences or benches).
• Maintains interior plants in common areas by watering, fertilizing and routinely spraying insecticides.
• Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned.

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The PT Grounds Worker provides grounds support relevant to LoneStar College campus exteriors. Maintains surrounding facility areasensuring a clean, presentable and well-manicured environment forstudents, faculty, staff and external community members at all LoneStar College System's campuses.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Must be able to understand and follow directions givenorally
• Physically capable of performing heavy lifting (50 pounds) andlabor intensive work associated with grounds maintenance
• Capable of safely operating powered equipment, such as: ridingmower, brush hog, tractor; Be able to determine which equipment touse for a particular purpose
• Knowledge of grounds keeping equipment experience helpful

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion,such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objectsover 50 pounds, and crouching or crawling in restrictedareas.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

The work involves regular exposure to outdoor elements, and/orregular exposure to hazardous items such as chemicals, toxic orcaustic materials, contamination, and electrical hazards. Thisexposure requires special safety precautions, e.g., working aroundmoving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseasesor irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to use protectiveclothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles,gloves, or shields.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related workexperience; An Associate¿s degree or higher may be considered inlieu of experience
• Must possess a valid Texas driver¿s license and be eligible forinsurance coverage

Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $16.66
