Job summary

HCA Healthcare, Inc. is seeking a Grossing Technician to perform gross examinations, tissue dissection, description, and dictation of surgical specimens in the Gross Room and Frozen Section Services area.

The role requires prioritization to meet Turn-Around-Time targets and ongoing competence as procedures evolve. The incumbent will train pathology residents, ensure accurate reporting, and maintain equipment and cleanliness in the gross room, contributing to quality assurance and compliance with

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a science-related field required.
• ASCP certification preferred for the role.
• 1+ years of experience with grossing routine specimens.

Responsibilities

• Performs gross examinations, dissection, and description of tissues.
• Workload is prioritized to meet Turn-Around-Time (TAT) and specimen requirements.
• Maintain competence and learn new procedures as techniques evolve.
• Accurate tissue sampling, descriptions, and dictations per procedure.
• Photograph specimens for archival purposes when appropriate.
• Perform gross procedures and dictation on routine and complex specimens.
• Dispose of specimens per guidelines and accreditation requirements.
• Maintain and troubleshoot equipment; coordinate with service reps as needed.
• Keep gross room and frozen section areas clean; manage tool storage.
• Organize tissue storage racks for rapid retrieval.
• Train and educate staff and residents in processing of surgical tissues.
• Communicate gross room procedures clearly to staff; resolve issues with supervisors.
• Support development and maintenance of Surgical Pathology protocols.
• Ensure annual updates to procedure manuals reflect current standards.
