Job summary

Kroger is seeking an Assistant to the Department Manager for the Grocery Department at 915 Hardy Rd, Vinton, VA. You will help plan, staff, train and direct associates, ensuring prompt, courteous service while upholding safety and company policies.

You will assist with scheduling, merchandising, pricing and displays, using CAO for ordering, and supporting department budgets and goals. Strong communication and retail experience are required.

Qualifications

• Flexible with schedule including mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Effective written and spoken communication.
• Ability to make quick, informed decisions.
• Strong customer service and merchandising skills.
• Experience in grocery operations, staffing, scheduling and supervision.
• Understanding of department operations (staffing, merchandising, inventory, shrink, labor).
• Familiarity with employment laws and OSHA compliance.
• Ability to operate power tools and equipment used in a grocery setting.
• Grocery retail experience or prior backup manager experience.
• Demonstrated dependability and integrity.

Responsibilities

• Assist Department Manager in planning, staffing, training and directing Grocery Department associates.
• Provide prompt, courteous service and handle customer/associate inquiries professionally.
• Use CAO to manage ordering and balance on hand when supervisor is away.
• Price, display and ensure signage, rotation, quality and space allocation for merchandise.
• Lead merchandising, customer service, product presentation and promotional activities.
• Follow company policies on dress code, grooming, sanitation and a harassment-free environment.
• Contribute to budget, goals and results for the department.
• Communicate with associates and customers to create a positive impression.
• Maintain equipment, facilities and cleanliness to policy standards.
• Promote and implement company initiatives with the team.
• Manage workloads and staffing efficiently and safely.
