Job summary

Kroger is seeking an Assistant Department Manager in the Grocery Department at our Henrico, VA location. You will assist in planning, staffing, training, and directing department associates to maximize store sales while upholding safety and company policies.

You will handle ordering, merchandising, and customer service, while ensuring proper signage and product presentation. This role requires strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

• Willing to work mornings, afternoons, evenings and nights as needed.
• Willing and available to work weekends and holidays.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly.
• Able to remain calm and professional under pressure.
• Experience in grocery retail or backup management preferable.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Department Manager in organizing work, staffing, and training associates to provide prompt service.
• Respond to customer or associate comments, complaints, requests, accidents and questions in a tactful, professional manner.
• Use CAO to manage ordering and maintain inventory balance in the absence of the Department Manager.
• Price and display merchandise; ensure signage, rotation, freshness and space allocation.
• Engage associates in merchandising, customer service, product presentation and promotions.
• Enforce company policies on dress code, grooming, sanitation and harassment/discrimination prevention.
• Provide input on department budgets, goals and results.
• Communicate with associates and customers to project a positive image of the store.
• Maintain equipment, facilities and clean grocery areas to safety and sanitation standards.
• Support company initiatives and process improvements with direct reports.
