Job summary

Kroger Family of Companies is seeking an experienced Department Manager to assist in planning, staffing, training, and directing the Grocery Department associates. You will balance production, merchandising, and customer service to maximize store sales and profits while upholding safety and ethical standards.

You will respond to inquiries, manage CAO-based orders, ensure proper signage and display, and coach staff on merchandising and service techniques.

Qualifications

• Willing to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights as needed.
• Willing to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly.
• Able to tactfully and calmly handle stressful situations and make a positive impression on associates and customers.
• Possess abilities for production, merchandising and customer services related to sale of merchandise.
• Understanding of department operations (managing people, merchandising, CAO, inventory, shrink, scheduling, etc.).
• Knowledge of employment laws and OSHA compliance.
• Qualified to operate power machinery and tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist Department Manager in planning, organizing, staffing, training and directing Grocery Department associates.
• Perform production and customer service functions; maximize store sales and profits safely and ethically.
• Respond to customer and associate comments, complaints, requests, accidents and questions promptly and professionally.
• Use CAO to manage ordering and balance on hand in the Department Manager's absence.
• Price and display merchandise, maintain signage, rotation, freshness and space allocation.
• Engage and counsel associates in merchandising techniques and customer service activities.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, dress code, sanitation and harassment/discrimination policies.
• Provide input on department budgets, goals and results.
• Communicate with associates and customers to create a positive impression.
• Maintain equipment, facilities and sanitary standards.
• Support company initiatives and process improvements with direct reports.
• Demonstrate aptitude to manage people and organize workloads.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.
