Job summary

The Kroger Company is seeking an Assistant Department Manager to support planning, staffing, training and directing Grocery Department associates in Carmel, IN. You will help maximize store sales and profits while upholding safety and company policies.

Responsibilities include scheduling, coaching staff, CAO ordering, pricing, promotions, and tight collaboration with store leadership. Candidates should show leadership, integrity and a customer-first mindset.

Qualifications

• Willing to work varied shifts incl. mornings/evenings/nights
• Able to work weekends/holidays
• Strong written and spoken communication skills
• Ability to make quick, informed decisions under pressure
• Calm, courteous, professional in interactions with customers and associates
• Understanding of department operations (staffing, merchandising, ordering, inventory)
• Knowledge of employment laws and OSHA basics
• Experience with grocery retail or as a backup manager
• Dependability and integrity in performance of duties

Responsibilities

• Assist Department Manager in organizing work and staffing the department
• Train and schedule associates to ensure prompt, courteous service
• Use CAO to manage ordering and balance on hand in manager’s absence
• Price and display merchandise; maintain signage, rotation and space allocation
• Advise on budgets, goals, and results for the department
• Communicate with associates and customers to create a positive impression
• Maintain equipment, facilities and sanitation standards
• Promote company initiatives and process improvements to the team
• Lead by example and manage workloads effectively
• Perform additional duties as assigned
