Job summary

The Kroger Co. is seeking a Department Manager in the Grocery Department to oversee planning, organizing, staffing, training, and directing associates while maximizing store sales and profits in a safe, ethical manner.

The role emphasizes leadership, customer service, and adherence to company policies and procedures. Responsibilities include staffing, scheduling, cashier/customer service oversight, merchandising execution, budgeting input, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality

Qualifications

• Willing to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and nights as needed.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as required.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to make quick, sound decisions under pressure.
• Able to manage people, merchandising, and customer service related to department operations.
• Knowledge of department operations including staffing, inventory, scheduling, and safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist Department Manager in organizing work and staffing to ensure prompt customer service.
• Respond to customer/associate comments and questions in a calm, professional manner.
• Use CAO to manage merchandise orders and track receipts and stock levels.
• Price and display merchandise; ensure signage, rotation, freshness, quantity, quality, and space allocation.
• Promote merchandising techniques, customer service, and promotional activities to staff.
• Enforce company policies on dress code, sanitation, and a harassment-free work environment.
• Provide input on department budgets, goals, and results.
• Communicate with associates and customers to create a positive impression.
• Maintain equipment, facilities, and grocery areas to sanitary standards.
• Promote company initiatives and process improvements with direct reports.
• Demonstrate ability to manage workloads and people effectively.
• Perform all duties as assigned.
