Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a candidate to assist in implementing work schedules, safety programs, logistics and record keeping at the facility. The role involves grain handling, operating loading equipment, and daily facilities inspection to ensure quality and safety.

The position requires strong safety awareness, ability to work with customers, and flexibility to work extended hours during harvest season.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Understand and comply with all safety policies and practices.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective communication with grain customers.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Available to work extended weekday and weekend hours during grain harvest seasons.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Be respectful, approachable and team oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Weigh and grade inbound and outbound grain and grain products to meet specifications.
  • Operate loading/unloading equipment to ship or receive grain products.
  • Inspect grain facilities daily to ensure equipment and stored grains are in good condition.
  • Help schedule logistics related to inbound and outbound grain.
  • Maintain and manage inventories to maximize profitability, including grain movements and blending.
  • Identify problems or improvements and work with supervisor to resolve.
  • Interact with customers daily.
  • Assist in implementing safety programs as set forth by Smithfield Foods.
  • Comply with environmental laws and procedures for Smithfield Foods and Smithfield Hog Production.
  • Report environmental issues to supervisor promptly.
  • Review the emergency notification process at the work site.
