Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Chadbourn, NC, is seeking a Grain Elevator Operator to tend, operate and oversee grain handling, quality, productivity and safety in the elevator and office.

Ideal candidate has grain experience, HS diploma, able to lift up to 50 lbs, and willingness to work extended hours during harvest. You will work with trucks, farmers, and SG procurement, maintain inventories, and ensure compliance with environmental policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Grain experience preferred.
• Must follow safety policies and practices.
• Ability to communicate clearly with customers and team.

Responsibilities

• Operate Smartsoft program, entering all necessary information per load.
• Communicate with SG procurement and buyers to understand grain contracts.
• Grade grain and manage grading procedures.
• Work with trucks and farmers to load/unload grain.
• Operate loading/unloading equipment to ship/receive grain products.
• Inspect facilities daily for equipment condition of stored grains.
• Assist in scheduling logistics for inbound/outbound grain.
• Maintain inventories to maximize SG profitability.
• Identify problems and work with manager to find solutions.
• Deal with customers daily.
• Support safety programs and environmental policies.
• Review emergency notification process and site policy.
• Report to work on scheduled days.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
