Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Clarkton, NC is seeking a hands-on grain elevator operator to tend, operate, and oversee all areas of the elevator and office. You will ensure compliance with procedures, maintain customer service for farmers and commercial customers, and work with SG on grain contracts and logistics.

The role requires high school diploma, grain experience preferred, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and willingness to work extended hours during harvest seasons.

Qualifications

• Available to work extended weekday and weekend hours during grain harvest seasons.

• Routinely exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions.
• Must be able to tolerate cold, heat, grain dust, grain/mill odors, and noisy conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate Smarts software program and enter all load information.
• Communicate with SG procurement and buyers to understand grain contracts.
• Responsible for grading grain and managing grading procedures.
• Work with trucks and farmers to load and unload grain.
• Operate loading/unloading equipment to ship or receive grain products.
• Inspect facilities daily to ensure equipment condition.
• Help schedule logistics for inbound/outbound grain.
• Maintain inventories to maximize SG profitability including grain movements.
• Identify problems or improvements and work with manager on solutions.
• Deal with customers daily.
