Job summary

Bartlett Co. in Council Bluffs, IA, is seeking a Shift Manager to lead hourly team members in a 2nd shift role (2pm–midnight, Mon–Thu with additional hours including weekends). Focus on safety, training, and efficient grain handling operations.

You’ll supervise loading/unloading, sampling, grading, blending, and preventive maintenance, while ensuring compliance and quality. Requires high school diploma, 1+ year grain handling experience, and readiness for overtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1 year plus experience working in grain handling facility or similar.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Ag Mechanics, Ag Business or similar is preferred.
• For safety reasons, must be able to read, write, understand and follow written and/or verbal instructions in English.
• Available to work overtime and weekends.
• Professional demeanor (safety conscious, quality of job performance, cleanliness, and verbal communications)
• Able to pass a criminal background check

Responsibilities

• Provide training, support and assistance to hourly team members.

• Be familiar with all operations, systems, policies and procedures including weighing or measuring materials and products, using scales, operating controls, recording data, cleaning and maintaining equipment, monitoring conveyors and equipment.
• Assist with preventative maintenance protocols and elevator operations.
• Effectively communicate tasks, directives and policies with both senior management and supervised team members.

Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience

Days/Hours: This job will be 2 nd shift, 2pm to midnight, Mon-Thurs but you will work outside those hours, including weekends.

Equipment Used: Various grain handling equipment, mainly conveyors and legs

Material Handled: Bulk corn

What you’ll be doing:

The Shift Manager is responsible for providing training, support and assistance to hourly team members. You will have a key role in maintaining a safe and sanitary workplace in compliance with Company policies and applicable regulations.

Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Commitment to worker safety, regulatory compliance and adherence to Company policies and procedures.
• Loading, unloading, sampling, grading, transferring, blending, drying, storage, aeration and fumigation of grain.
• Effectively assist with the supervision and management of personnel and operational activities .
• Assist with managing the business to plan according to pre-set objectives .
• Be familiar with all operations, systems, policies and procedures including, but not limited to:
  • Weighing or measuring materials and products and using scales or other measuring instruments in order to verify specified tonnages
  • Manipulating controls, levers, and valves to start pumps, auxiliary equipment, or conveyors, and to adjust equipment positions, speeds, timing, and material flows
  • Recording and tracking data such as weights, types, quantities, and storage locations of materials, as well as equipment performance problems and downtime
  • Cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining equipment, machinery, and work stations, using hand tools, shovels, brooms, chemicals, hoses, and lubricants
  • Observing conveyor operations and monitor lights, dials, and gauges, in order to maintain specified operating levels and to detect equipment malfunctions.
• Assist with preventative maintenance protocols and elevator operations.
• Effectively communicate tasks, directives and policies with both senior management and supervised team members.
