Job summary

Bartlett Co. in Council Bluffs, IA is seeking a Shift Manager to lead hourly teams, train staff and uphold safety and sanitation standards in a 3rd shift operation.

You will oversee grain handling processes, coordinate day-to-day activities, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with management to meet production goals. Strong English, reliability and safety mindset required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Minimum 1 year in grain handling facility or similar.
• Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's in Ag Mechanics or Ag Business.
• Must read, write and understand follow English instructions.
• Available to work overtime and weekends.
• Able to pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide training and support to hourly team members.
• Maintain a safe and sanitary workplace in compliance with company policies.
• Oversee loading, unloading, sampling, grading, transferring, blending, drying, storage and aeration of grain.
• Assist with supervision and management of personnel and operational activities.
• Assist with managing the business to plan according to pre-set objectives.
• Be familiar with operations, systems, policies, and procedures including measuring materials and controlling equipment.
• Record and track data on weights, materials, storage locations, and equipment performance.
• Observe and maintain conveyor operations and monitor indicators to prevent malfunctions.

Location: Council Bluffs, IA

Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience

Days/Hours: This job will be 3 rd shift, 11pm to 7am, Mon-Fri but you will work outside those hours, including weekends.

Equipment Used: Various grain handling equipment, mainly conveyors and legs

Material Handled: Bulk corn

What you'll be doing:

The Shift Manager is responsible for providing training, support and assistance to hourly team members. You will have a key role in maintaining a safe and sanitary workplace in compliance with Company policies and applicable regulations.

Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Commitment to worker safety, regulatory compliance and adherence to Company policies and procedures.
• Loading, unloading, sampling, grading, transferring, blending, drying, storage, aeration and fumigation of grain.
• Effectively assist with the supervision and management of personnel and operational activities.
• Assist with managing the business to plan according to pre-set objectives .
• Be familiar with all operations, systems, policies and procedures including, but not limited to:
  • Weighing or measuring materials and products and using scales or other measuring instruments in order to verify specified tonnages
  • Manipulating controls, levers, and valves to start pumps, auxiliary equipment, or conveyors, and to adjust equipment positions, speeds, timing, and material flows
  • Recording and tracking data such as weights, types, quantities, and storage locations of materials, as well as equipment performance problems and downtime
  • Cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining equipment, machinery, and work stations, using hand tools, shovels, brooms, chemicals, hoses, and lubricants
  • Observing conveyor operations and monitor lights, dials, and gauges, in order to maintain specified operating levels and to detect equipment malfunctions.
• Assist with preventative maintenance protocols and elevator operations.
• Effectively communicate tasks, directives and policies with both senior management and supervised team members.

Requirements to be successful in this position:

• High school diploma or GED
• 1 year plus experience working in grain handling facility or similar
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Ag Mechanics, Ag Business or similar is preferred
• For safety reasons, must be able to read, write, understand and follow written and/or verbal instructions in English
• Available to work overtime and weekends
• Professional demeanor (safety conscious, quality of job performance, cleanliness, and verbal communications)
• Able to pass a criminal background check
