Job summary

The New York Botanical Garden seeks a WILD Student Instructional Designer to support workforce development and digital literacy across the Garden. This graduate student role translates staff needs into learning objectives, live sessions, and e-learning modules.

You will publish content in NYBG's LMS, ensure accessibility, and collaborate with subject-matter experts to deliver impactful training for diverse staff, including seasonal and part-time workers.

Qualifications

• Graduate student in instructional design or related field.
• Experience creating instructional materials, e-learning, workshops, or microlearning for adults.
• Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills; ability to translate complex info into practical learning resources.
• Strong organizational and project coordination abilities with multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Knowledge of adult learning, accessibility, plain-language principles, and diverse learner needs.
• Experience with Articulate Rise 360 or similar e-learning tools; Storyline familiarity a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office apps; comfortable with LMS content tools.
• Ability to collaborate across roles, handle feedback, and exercise discretion with internal information.
• Experience in museums, gardens, libraries, universities, nonprofits, or educational settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Translate staff needs into clear learning objectives, outlines, storyboards, and learner-centered experiences.
• Develop and revise digital learning modules, microlearning assets, job aids, and templates.
• Prepare materials for live/virtual sessions and convert sessions into recordings and asynchronous content.
• Configure and publish content in NYBG's learning systems with accessibility and version control in mind.
• Design materials with accessibility, plain language, and varied tech confidence in mind.
• Incorporate guidance on privacy, bias awareness, and source verification in WILD resources.
• Maintain production plans, inventories, and grant-related documentation.
• Coordinate with subject-matter experts and colleagues to gather content and manage reviews.
• Use feedback and pilot findings to revise materials and provide program support.
• Perform other duties to support WILD and grant projects.
