Education/Experience Requirements
  • Recent graduate within two (2) years of graduation with appropriate background.
  • Bachelor's degree (BSc or BEng) from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Equivalent experience can include a combination of an accredited non-university/technical school level safety program and direct safety supervision in an industrial environment.
Summary/Job Scope

To serve as the graduate-level advisor in occupational health and safety by developing and implementing procedures that effectively control accident and health exposures. Responsible for providing guidance, awareness, and proactive leadership to ensure safe operations and act as a change agent and consultant for occupational health and safety for staff and contractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety administration, including data collection, reporting, and management of injury/accident info across North America.
  • Proficiency in Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Assist with worker compensation claims reporting and follow-up.
  • Manage health and safety management systems, including data input, monthly reporting, and documentation.
  • Organize and administer safety trainings, medical exams, and research best safety practices.
  • Support corrective actions for inspections and audits.
  • Maintain safety documentation and databases (eCompliance, e-Docs, MSDS).
  • Participate in safety meetings and committees.
  • Support policy and program development, safety communications, and field inspections.
  • Assist with procurement, invoicing, and safety program improvements.
  • Support drug and alcohol testing programs (US).
  • Contribute to safety improvement plans and ISO safety certification maintenance.
  • Provide guidance on regulations and safety programs, and develop safety procedures.
Authority/Decision Making

Limited independent decision-making; work under supervision of a H&S Specialist.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibilities.

Competencies
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work with all levels, and effective listening.
  • Strong planning, organization, and process management skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, including investigating issues and interpreting regulations.
  • Ability to define problems, analyze data, and draw conclusions.
  • Effective technical writing and communication skills, multilingual ability is a plus.
  • Basic math and computer skills, including MS Office, Excel, PowerBI, and dashboards.
Other Requirements

Travel to various sites with own vehicle and a valid driver’s license. Moderate physical activity required, including walking, standing, lifting up to 20 pounds, and working in industrial environments with exposure to dust, noise, and other elements.
