The University of South Carolina Upstate is seeking applicants for a graduate assistant position in marketing, fan engagement, and revenue generation. Under the guidance of the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Revenue Generation, this role will support strategies to maximize fan attendance, ticket sales, and sponsorship revenue across USC Upstate's 13 sport programs. Our program aims to provide a comprehensive graduate assistantship experience, preparing individuals for careers in collegiate athletics administration upon graduation.
Essential Job Functions:
- Lead marketing, promotional, and game presentation efforts for assigned sports.
- Serve as secondary contact for marketing and group tickets for men’s and women’s basketball.
- Assist with corporate partnership prospecting, proposals, and stewardship under the direction of the Sr. Associate AD for External Operations.
- Implement grassroots marketing activities on-campus and within the Spartanburg community.
- Research and develop innovative fan engagement and revenue generation concepts.
- Assist in planning and executing non-gameday events such as Morgan Square Madness, Sparty Awards, Sparty’s Ball, Fox Sports 98.3 FM Upstate Takeover Day, and Hall of Fame Induction.
- Assist in training, scheduling, and supervising undergraduate student workers for assigned sports.
- Manage USC Upstate’s presence at community events, including mascot appearances and Sparty’s Kids Club.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Fan Experience or Sr. Associate Athletic Director for External Operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Acceptance into the Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management (MSEM) program at USC Columbia or the Business Analytics Master’s program at USC Upstate.
- Must be accepted as a graduate student to hold the assistantship.
- Effective interpersonal skills with student-athletes, colleagues, coaches, and supporters.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Attention to detail.
- Successful background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, sports management, or related fields.
- Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics or professional sports.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Prompt and reliable attendance.
- Flexibility to work nights and weekends as scheduled.
- Ability to adhere to USC Upstate, Big South Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Compensation:
- Stipend of $1,000 per month for a 10-month academic year, with potential summer appointment.
- Out-of-state tuition waiver (valued at approximately $12,000 to $16,000 annually, depending on credit hours).
- Candidate is responsible for in-state tuition and fees, approximately $10,300 to $14,000 annually.
- USC Upstate parking permit.
