The University of South Carolina Upstate is seeking applicants for a graduate assistant position in marketing, fan engagement, and revenue generation. Under the supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Revenue Generation, this role will support strategies to maximize fan attendance, ticket sales, and sponsorship revenue across USC Upstate's 13 athletic programs.

Our graduate assistantship program aims to provide a comprehensive experience, equipping individuals with knowledge and skills to pursue careers in collegiate athletics administration upon graduation.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Lead marketing, promotional, and game presentation efforts for assigned sports.
  2. Serve as secondary marketing and group ticket contact for men’s and women’s basketball.
  3. Assist with corporate partnership prospecting, proposals, and stewardship under the guidance of the Sr. Associate AD for External Operations.
  4. Implement grassroots marketing activities on-campus and within the Spartanburg community.
  5. Research innovative fan engagement and revenue generation concepts.
  6. Support planning and execution of non-gameday events such as Morgan Square Madness, Sparty Awards, and others.
  7. Assist with training, scheduling, and supervising undergraduate student workers.
  8. Manage USC Upstate’s presence at community events, including mascot appearances and Sparty’s Kids Club.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Fan Experience or Sr. Associate Athletic Director for External Operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Acceptance into the Master of Science in Sport and Entertainment Management (MSEM) program at USC Columbia or the Business Analytics Master’s program at USC Upstate.
  • Must be accepted as a graduate student to hold the assistantship.
  • Effective communication skills with student-athletes, colleagues, coaches, and supporters.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Successful background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, sports management, or related fields.
  • Previous experience in intercollegiate athletics or professional sports.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Prompt and regular attendance.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends.
  • Adherence to USC Upstate, Big South Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Multitasking ability.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Compensation:
  • $1,000 monthly stipend for a 10-month academic year, with potential summer appointment.
  • Out-of-state tuition waiver (valued at approximately $12,000–$16,000 annually).
  • Candidate is responsible for in-state tuition and fees (approximately $10,300–$14,000 annually).
  • USC Upstate parking permit at $1000/month, plus tuition waiver if applicable.
