Job summary

East Texas A&M University’s New Student & Family Programs seeks a Graduate Assistant to support orientation, family programs, and student transition initiatives in Commerce, TX. This is a 9‑month, 20‑hour‑per‑week position.

You will assist with planning, registration, trainings, and events; supervise Orientation Leaders, develop communications, coordinate marketing materials, and participate in risk management and budgeting for major events.

Qualifications

  • Only full-time graduate students are eligible for this position.
  • Must be admitted to a graduate program or plan to enroll by Fall 2025.
  • All positions are security-sensitive and require credential verification.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, coordination, implementation, and assessment of New Student Orientation programs.
  • Support recruitment, training, and supervision of Orientation Leaders and student staff.
  • Assist with orientation check-in, registration processes, presentations, and event logistics.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to ensure a successful orientation experience for incoming students and families.
  • Evaluate participant feedback and recommend improvements for future orientation programs.
  • Assist in developing communication and marketing materials for orientation programs.
  • Assist with the planning, promotion, implementation, and assessment of Family Weekend events.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate Family Weekend programming.
  • Support communication initiatives that connect family members to university resources and events.
  • Assist with event registration, guest services, and on-site event management during Family Weekend.
  • Develop programming that supports family engagement and student success.
  • Attend and assist with weekly departmental meetings, events, and training opportunities.
  • Support programs that enhance the transition experience for new students.
  • Assist with outreach to prospective, incoming, and current students and families.
  • Develop databases, records, and communication platforms for programs.
  • Collaborate on innovative educational and engagement programs.
  • Assist with marketing efforts, including social media and event communications.
  • Share responsibility for risk management and budgeting for events.
  • Assist with budget management, purchasing, and event expenditures.
  • Represent New Student and Family Programs on university committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.
