Job summary

Icy Strait Point in Alaska seeks an experienced supervisor to oversee the aerial ropeway operations and ensure staff readiness for safe, public service. You will lead Gondola Operators, coordinate schedules, and uphold high customer-service standards in all operations, including incident response and routine checks.

You will monitor safety, enforce guidelines, and coordinate with teams to maintain reliable service while supporting a remote Alaska work environment.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising employees, preferably in a seasonal environment.
• Willingness to learn gondola operations through training provided.
• Ability to travel by small plane or ferry to remote settings.

Responsibilities

• Oversee practices to ensure aerial ropeway is operational and staff are trained, equipped, and capable before public operation.
• Follow guiding principles: BAP—Best, Authentic, Profitable in all activities and decisions.
• Continuously monitor factors affecting safe and efficient gondola operation.
• Authorize discontinuation of operations due to weather, safety, or other reasons.
• Recruit, screen, and recommend hires; schedule, evaluate, and initiate disciplinary actions for Gondola Operators.
• Ensure timecards or pay sheets are reviewed, signed, and submitted timely.
• Troubleshoot gondola systems and log faults/bypasses per ANSI code.
• Maintain high customer service while communicating with Gondola Attendants about loads and movement.

Responsibilities

• Oversee practices to ensure that the aerial ropeway is operational and that all operating personnel are trained, equipped, and capable of performing their duties prior to public operation.
• Conduct all activities and decisions according to Icy Strait Point’s guiding principles: BAP: Best, Authentic, Profitable.
• Constantly monitor factors affecting the safe and efficient operation of the gondola system and cabins.
• Authorize discontinuation of operations of the aerial ropeway due to physical, adverse weather, personnel or other reasons.
• Recruit, screen, and recommend hires, schedules, evaluate, and initiate disciplinary action of all Gondola Operators.
• Ensure all timecards or pay sheets are reviewed, signed, and submitted in a timely manner.
• Perform basic troubleshooting of gondola systems and record/log faults and bypasses per ANSI code.
• While on duty, communicate with all Gondola Attendants regarding passenger load, all stages of movement, problems, etc.; maintain a high level of customer service.

Requirements

• Previous experience supervising employees, preferably in a seasonal environment.
• Willingness to learn gondola operations as we provide training.
• Comfortable traveling by small plane or ferry to and from a remote setting.
• Able to walk and drive on gravel roads in inclement weather.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. of various equipment/supplies.
• Must be able to hike trails to assist management in various emergencies (e.g., medical, missing persons, etc.)
• Perfect sight with or without correction to see screens, equipment, and gondolas in a distance.
• Good hearing to hear radio communication in loud environment.
• Ability to see the colors green and red.
