Job summary

CIEE is seeking Program Leaders for international study abroad programs. This full-time residential role requires 24/7 availability during the program to ensure student safety, well-being, and a positive learning experience.

You will mentor teens, supervise activities, and coordinate with local staff and instructors to deliver a safe, enriching journey from arrival to departure. Leadership skills and cultural sensitivity are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience working with high school students in educational/mentoring/leadership roles.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to youth development, global learning, and intercultural exchange.
• Bachelor's degree required.
• Must be 21+ years of age or older.
• Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
• Must meet visa/entry requirements for assigned locations.
• Valid passport through February 2028.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Must pass required background check.
• CPR/First Aid certification.
• Language proficiency: ACTFL Advanced-Low or higher in host country language.

Responsibilities

• Support and mentor students with academic, social, emotional, and behavioral support; build positive relationships and maintain professional boundaries.
• Monitor student well-being and safety; respond to homesickness, culture shock, conflicts, medical concerns, and behavioral issues per CIEE protocols.
• Supervise students and activities, including excursions, travel, daily operations, and programming; ensure accountability and compliance.
• Build an inclusive, culturally responsive community and facilitate reflection and experiential learning beyond the classroom.
• Communicate and collaborate with students, families, instructors, local staff, Program Leaders, and colleagues.
• Exercise sound judgment, stay adaptable, maintain 24/7 availability, and respond calmly to challenges.
