Job summary

Global Export Compliance Manager
OVERVIEW

The Global Export Compliance Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's worldwide export compliance and sanctions program. This role ensures compliance with U.S. export regulations (EAR, ITAR, OFAC), as well as applicable international export control, sanctions, customs, and trade regulations in all countries where the company conducts business. The Global Export Compliance Manager serves as the global subject matter expert for export controls, sanctions, licensing, restricted-party screening, and trade compliance risk management while supporting business growth and international operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, implement, and maintain global trade compliance policies, procedures, controls, and governance frameworks to ensure compliance with applicable export control, sanctions, customs, and trade regulations.
  • Manage export control classifications for products, software, technology, and technical data, including ECCN determinations and export jurisdiction reviews under EAR, ITAR, and applicable international regulations.
  • Oversee restricted party screening and sanctions compliance activities, including reviews involving sanctioned countries, restricted entities, embargoed destinations, and prohibited end uses.
  • Lead global export licensing activities and coordinate submissions, authorizations, disclosures, audits, and inquiries involving government regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct enterprise-wide trade compliance risk assessments, compliance reviews, and monitoring activities to identify and mitigate regulatory risks.
  • Partner with Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Logistics, Sales, Finance, and Legal teams to ensure compliant import and export operations and support international business initiatives.
  • Evaluate the impact of evolving trade regulations, sanctions, tariffs, embargoes, and geopolitical developments on business operations and communicate risks and recommendations to leadership.
  • Develop and deliver trade compliance training programs and awareness initiatives to foster a culture of compliance and ethical business practices.
  • Lead cross-functional compliance projects, facilitate compliance governance activities, and provide guidance on complex trade compliance matters.
  • Prepare compliance metrics, risk assessments, audit results, and program updates for senior leadership.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, International Trade, Supply Chain, Legal Studies, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in export compliance, trade compliance, customs, international trade, or a related regulatory compliance function.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. export control regulations, including EAR, ITAR, OFAC sanctions, and related government agency requirements.
  • Experience conducting export classifications, ECCN determinations, restricted party screening, licensing activities, and compliance reviews.
  • Experience interpreting and applying complex regulatory requirements in a business environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct compliance assessments, investigate potential compliance issues, and implement corrective actions.
  • Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and drive compliance initiatives in a matrixed global organization.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish at a professional level.
PREFERRED
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in global trade compliance within a multinational manufacturing, technology, industrial, aerospace, defense, or highly regulated environment.
  • Advanced expertise in EAR, ITAR, OFAC, BIS, U.S. Customs regulations, and international export control and sanctions frameworks.
  • Experience supporting global operations across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America.
  • Experience leading compliance audits, risk assessments, internal investigations, voluntary disclosures, and regulatory agency interactions.
  • Knowledge of customs compliance, country-of-origin determinations, customs valuation, import/export recordkeeping, and free trade agreements such as USMCA.
  • Experience evaluating trade impacts associated with tariffs, sanctions, embargoes, and changing geopolitical conditions.
  • Experience designing and delivering compliance training programs and developing enterprise-wide compliance policies and procedures.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Export Specialist (CES), Certified U.S. Export Compliance Officer (CUSECO), Certified Global Business Professional (CGBP), or U.S. Customs Broker License.
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders on complex global trade compliance matters.
