Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Economics Summer Intern to support macroeconomic research and automotive industry analysis. You will apply economics training and coding skills to aid economic modeling, develop internal tools, and prepare concise analyses for decision-makers.

Qualifications

• Available to work full-time, 40 hours per week, during the 12 week Summer 2027 internship.
• Currently pursuing a Masters or PhD degree in economics or a closely related field.
• Master student must be graduating between December 2027 - June 2029.
• PhD student must be graduating between December 2027 - 2033.
• Experience using R, Python, or Stata for data analysis.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Interest in the automotive industry, manufacturing, or industrial policy.
• Commitment to learning, openness to feedback, and a collaborative, low-ego approach to teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Support analysis of global and US economic growth, inflation, labor markets, and household balance sheets.
• Analyze the outlook for North American and global automotive industries.
• Evaluate effects of public policy on GM, automotive sector, and customers.
• Draft briefing materials translating complex data into clear insights for nontechnical audiences.
• Help build digital tools to automate distribution of analysis on key indicators and metrics.
