Openkrill is seeking a seasoned Database Platform Engineer to design and operate globally distributed data systems, spanning bare‑metal and cloud environments. You will lead complex initiatives, define technical direction, and streamline the DB/infra footprint while driving automation and reliability across teams.

The role emphasizes strong expertise in relational and distributed data technologies, Kubernetes/bare‑metal deployments, and robust observability with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in database reliability engineering or related infrastructure roles.
• Experience with large-scale production databases and latency‑critical systems.
• Deep expertise in relational and distributed data systems.
• Experience deploying on Kubernetes and bare‑metal infrastructure.
• Strong automation skills with Terraform, Ansible, Helm, GitLab CI/CD, ArgoCD.
• Experience building observability stacks with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki.
• Familiarity with database change management tools (Liquibase, Flyway, Alembic).

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve globally distributed database systems for performance, availability, scalability, and continuity in both bare‑metal and cloud environments.
• Lead complex initiatives, set technical direction, and influence engineering decisions without direct reporting lines.
• Reduce operational complexity and consolidate the database/infra footprint.
• Design and implement automation for provisioning, configuration, deployment, upgrades, testing, and change management use cases.
• Establish durable practices for monitoring, incident response, capacity planning, security, IAM, auditing, and traceability.
• Diagnose difficult performance and reliability problems across globally distributed, latency‑sensitive infrastructure and drive root‑cause resolutions.
• Lead retrospectives and root‑cause analyses for significant data incidents and translate findings into tooling/architecture improvements.
• Develop roadmaps for the data platform and communicate priorities/trade-offs to stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers through architecture reviews, guidance, and hands‑on collaboration.
