Job summary

Ookla is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join the Platform and SRE team. You will build, operate, and scale our massive infrastructure supporting hundreds of millions of users worldwide, focusing on performance, reliability, and security.

You will work across a distributed stack, support production systems 24x7, and guide engineers on best practices for deployment, monitoring, and incident response. Collaboration and innovation are highly valued.

Qualifications

• 4+ Years Systems/Platform engineering experience.
• Experience building globally-distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of security best practices.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining a distributed, global ecosystem of cloud instances, containers, serverless apps, Linux servers, and infrastructure.
• Maintaining transactional databases using MySQL, PostgreSQL, and RDS/Aurora.
• Supporting NoSQL storage engines such as DynamoDb and MongoDB.
• Building and supporting data stream processing with Kinesis or Kafka.
• Supporting data engineering and big data toolchains such as Spark.
• Supporting production systems in a 24x7x365 environment, including on-call responsibilities.
• Providing architectural and operational support to software engineers across focus areas.
• Support software and data engineering teams with operational best practices.
• Implementation and oversight of security programs including vulnerability remediation, patch management, IDS/IPS, penetration testing, interfacing with InfoSec.
• Supporting the deployment pipeline from development to production for multiple apps.
• Providing tooling and guidance for monitoring and observability best practices.
• Assisting development teams with troubleshooting.
