Job summary

Xcel Energy in Minneapolis, MN is offering a GIS Intern position in the Geospatial Electric Transmission department. The successful candidate will assist in legal description mapping, data creation, suitability modeling, and site location analysis while maintaining project databases.

Ideal applicants are current students in Geography, GIS, or Geospatial Science who can work full-time in summer (40 hrs/week) or part-time during the school year (20 hrs/week) and commute to the designated location

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing Geography, GIS, or Geospatial Science
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person per hybrid policy.

Responsibilities

• Create, prepare and maintain GIS layers, applications and data sets for various projects.
• Translate legal land descriptions and PLSS data to cartographic representations.
• Work with GIS team to develop data standards, program goals and maintenance procedures.
• Create exhibits and landowners lists for the project team
