Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking an intern to support GIS data management, mapping and spatial analysis across multiple worksites. You will collect, clean, and organize spatial data, perform QA/QC, and assist field data collection using GPS and mobile GIS apps.

The role requires a current student pursuing GIS/related fields and the ability to travel when needed. The program runs through the summer with a May 24, 2027 start date, offering hybrid work arrangements and a pathway to extension based on

Qualifications

Current student pursuing a GIS/geography/environmental science/engineering degree.
Personal vehicle needed to travel to other worksites.
Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per hybrid work policy.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify data discrepancies.
Experience with spreadsheets, databases, and data analysis tools.
Familiarity with GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro, Smallworld, or similar platforms.
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team.

Responsibilities

GIS Data Management & Mapping: create, edit, and maintain GIS datasets and maps.
Spatial Analysis: perform geospatial analysis using GIS software and geodatabases.
Data Collection & QA/QC: collect, clean, and organize spatial and tabular data; support field data collection via GPS devices or mobile GIS apps; conduct quality assurance on GIS data.
