Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a GIS Intern in Minneapolis to assist with legal descriptions, data creation, and site analyses in the Geospatial Electric Transmission team. You will support mapping efforts, PLSS data translation, and database maintenance while collaborating with a GIS-focused group.

The role is designed for students pursuing Geography or Geospatial Science and requires full-time summer work (40 hrs/week) with potential extension. A hybrid in-person schedule applies.

Qualifications

• Current student, Junior or higher
• Enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Geography, GIS, or Geospatial Science
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) and part-time during school year (up to 20 hours/week) in-person per hybrid policy
• Preferred: GIS I completion, ArcGIS/Illustrator experience, proficiency with MS Office

Responsibilities

• Create, prepare and maintain GIS layers, applications and data sets for projects
• Translate legal land descriptions and PLSS data to cartographic representations
• Work with GIS team to develop data standards, program goals and maintenance procedures
• Create exhibits and landowners lists for the project team
