Job summary

Ponaganset High School seeks an Assistant Coach for Girls Softball to help players develop skills and character, focusing on discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academics. The coach will guide athletes toward personal growth through competitive participation and teamwork.

The role reports to the Athletic Director and Principal and requires current BCI clearance, valid First Aid/CPR/AED, and NFHS coaching certifications.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching adolescent athletes in competitive sports.
• Coaching application on file.
• Meets RI/state requirements including updated BCI Check.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
• NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching course completed.
• NFHS Concussion in Sports course (annual).
• NFHS Protecting Students From Abuse (annual).
• NFHS RI State Component Course for new coaches.
• NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest course (annual).
• NFHS Implicit Bias course (annual).
• NFHS Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention (annual).
• NFHS Heat Illness Prevention (annual).
• NFHS Title IX and NFHS Sportsmanship recognized.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

• Coaches individuals, small groups and teams to build skills for a successful experience.
• Supervises participants and teams at all times.
• Knows and applies current rules, RI IL regulations, and district policies.
• Monitors academic performance and emphasizes academics alongside athletics.
• Acts as a role model, showing respect to officials and participants under stress.
• Collaborates with athletic director and other coaches to schedule practices and games.
• Informs athletic director about facility, equipment and uniform condition.
• Communicates with athletic director about team issues and activities.
• Notifies athletic director of actions or conditions impacting safety.
• Delegates duties to assistants and volunteers as needed.
• Performs other duties as defined by athletic director and principal.
